Boston and Albany herald
Name:

Boston and Albany herald

Description:
The oldest predecessor to the Boston and Albany was chartered in 1831 and the first track was laid in 1833 on the line from Boston to Worcester. A series of mergers through the rest of the 19th century led to the final configuration of the railroad.

In 1900 the New York Central signed a 99 year lease with the B and A, effectively transferring control of the railroad to the NYC. However the B and A retained a separate identity well into the 20th century.
