Red herald used by the Rock Island line. The Rock Island is listed under 'Union Pacific' predecessors even though the Rock wasn't purchased by the UP outright. The Rock Island's end was perhaps the strangest of any of the rails that went through bankruptcy in the 70s. As evidence of how depressed the rail industry was, the Rock fetched far more in liquidation than it was valued at as an operating concern. With the cash raised during liquidation the 'Chicago Pacific Corporation' bought Hoover and other companies and was eventually purchased by Maytag. Default Size:
